Crown Point

Traversing the invisible barrier of the arch with native american markings, the view changes to a high bluff looking out over a massive, blue river flanked by lush green trees all along the path that it cuts between banks.

The once open-air forum of the Afterglow Vista is now an enclosed rotunda crowning the point of the rocky outcropping it is perched on – giving it its namesake. Wind brutally buffets the building from all sides in wild eddies.  At this altitude, a whipping 40 mph is average, demanding a jacket from most visitors.

From this area of the paved loop, the vantage out over the Great River, known after the frontier settling days as the Columbia, is breathtaking. There is a concrete stair leading down-ways, or, the double-wide doors that seem to invite visitors inside out of the elements.
